SpaceX Starlink User In Mexico Shares Their Experience After A Month Of Using The Internet Service

SpaceX is rapidly building the Starlink satellite constellation to rapidly expand internet service coverage worldwide. With nearly 2,000 broadband satellites in Low Earth Orbit the company already provides internet service to over 145,000 customers across 25 countries, including rural regions located in: United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Slovakia, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. 

Starlink became available in Mexico in November 2020 in rural regions across the country. Manuel Nieto, a SpaceX Starlink user from Monterrey, Mexico, shared their experience after a month of using the internet service at a countryside home. “We stream Netflix, Disney+, YouTube on multiple devices at the same time. A beauty!” Nieto told TESMANIAN in Spanish. “I installed it in a countryside house, typically, I spend the weekends there. In that location there is no cell phone signal of any kind. It’s been great having Starlink,” he shared. The Starlink network is ideal for rural and remote locations where internet is unreliable or completely unavailable because it is very easy to install, users simply need an electricity source and a clear view of the sky for the Starlink dish antenna.

Nieto shared in a Facebook group dedicated for Starlink users in Mexico, that he has connected Starlink to 10 devices simultaneously for multiple users and says everyone streamed video content with no speed issues. Nieto told TESMANIAN that Starlink’s internet download speed is typically over 100Mbps (Megabits per second) and varies from time to time. He performed a speed test and obtained high-speed internet over 200Mbps. “Using advanced satellites in a low orbit, Starlink enables video calls, online gaming, streaming, and other high data rate activities that historically have not been possible with satellite internet. Users can expect to see download speeds between 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps and latency as low as 20ms [milliseconds] in most locations,” the company's website states. SpaceX is accepting service pre-orders via its website and is fulfilling orders on a 'first-come, first-served' basis when broadband coverage becomes available in specific locations.
