Hong Kong-based ship manager Anglo-Eastern announced plans to equip 200 ships with SpaceX Starlink hardware for high-speed satellite internet. The company operates 600 vessels globally that transport cargo and passengers, including: 300 bulk carriers, 200 tankers, and 100 container ships. On March 10, the company shared that it started to install the Starlink antennas to the first dozen ships. “This week marks the first formal installation of #StarlinkMaritime within our fleet," said Anglo-Eastern representatives, "It is part of an initial order covering a dozen vessels of various ship types and trading patterns, so that it can be trialled before roll-out. 200+ installations are expected by year-end alone."

The company says that around 27,000 seafarers work onboard it's vessels. On March 13, a mariner shared on Twitter that they tested SpaceX’s Starlink internet at sea and they are impressed by its high-speed. "Internet speed after Starlink Internet onboard one of the Anglo-Eastern ship. Game changer in seafarers wellbeing," they said. They also shared a screenshot of the internet speed test, the Starlink Maritime service provided download speeds of 43.3 Mbps (Megabits per second), shown below.

“We quietly started our journey a year ago, when Starlink first announced its [Recreational Vehicle] service. Once installed on several vessels, we knew immediately it was a game-changer,” said Anglo-Eastern CIO Torbjorn Dimblad. “Overnight, these ships became as connected as any office or home, affording the crew unprecedented access to friends and family while enabling an entirely new level of collaboration between ship and shore," they told gCaptain.
As of today, SpaceX provides maritime coverage globally with approximately 3,800 Starlink satellites in Low Earth Orbit. The company already provides service to over one million subscribers, including residential and enterprise customers on moving vehicles, airplanes, and cruise ships. SpaceX recently updated its Starlink.com website and it says – "Our maritime service is now global, providing connectivity to the vast majority of the Earth’s oceans and seas."
