SpaceX is creating an enjoyable environment at its Starbase facility located in the small Boca Chica beach village in South Texas, along the Gulf of Mexico. The company is working day and night to develop the Starship launch system that will return NASA astronauts to the Moon and launch the first crew to Mars. South Texas has seen an influx of SpaceX employees and tourists amazed by the stainless-steel spacecraft.
The company has established some structures to accommodate employees at Boca Chica. The region is approximately 30-minutes away from the City of Brownsville, so it is useful to provide employees with amenities nearby. Some of the visible places where employees can rest include: an ‘Olympus Mon’ park with tiny, silver Airstream RV’s; a ‘Tiki Bar’ and an outdoor restaurant with food trucks that provide meals from a variety of caterers.

The outdoor restaurant features a silver roof made out of the Starship MK1 prototype’s stainless-steel fins. “We’re working on enabling public access to our restaurant!” SpaceX founder Elon Musk said in response to a photograph of Starship SN20 passing by the shiny restaurant, as it was transported down Highway 4 road to the launch pad (pictured below).

The sandy region is starting to look like a futuristic spaceport. They are also building a bar atop a vehicle assembly high bay “with 360 degree windows and a glass floor looking down on the rocket factory,” Musk said. The company is looking for a ‘Spaceport Mixologist’ bartender to work at the Starbase facility restaurants. Sounds like a job title straight out of a sci-fi film but its real. “We are looking for a passionate, experienced bartender looking to join our culinary team! SpaceX has a number of food service outlets and formats serving our workforce and are looking to add many more,” the company wrote in a recent job listing. “We are searching for candidates who have superior mixology experience with a focus in resorts, bars, and full service restaurants.” You can find the Job application at SpaceX’s official website: SpaceX.com/careers
We still don't know what kind of meals SpaceX plans to serve to the public at the Starbase restaurants, it is likely Musk will come up with some fun/witty names for cocktails and snacks – we could snack on some ‘Star-Chips'! “I super support public spaces around our production & launch sites, wherever it can be done safely and securely,” Musk said in January. “When covid passes, we will open up our restaurant to the public & figure out ways to allow limited access to the High Bar,” he wrote in a Tweet. “Was also thinking that SpaceX Boca should hold fun parties and give tours for the community from time to time,” he added.
