SpaceX Builds New Starlink Facility in Texas to Increase Production Capacity of Hardware Kits

In a move to expand its global connectivity initiative, SpaceX has built a state-of-the-art Starlink facility adjacent to The Boring Company's site in Bastrop, Texas. This strategic development aims to increase the production capacity of SpaceX's Starlink hardware kits, which are instrumental in providing high-speed internet access to some of the most remote areas on the planet.

Known for its pioneering efforts in space exploration and satellite technology, SpaceX has been progressively deploying its Starlink satellite constellation to provide broadband services globally. With approximately 5,000 Starlink satellites already launched to Low Earth Orbit, the company has secured approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to launch an additional 7,500 second-generation (Gen2) satellites. These upgraded satellites are designed to amplify the network's capabilities, enabling features such as beamed voice and text messaging data directly to smartphones in collaboration with T-Mobile.

The new Gen2 satellites are being introduced incrementally, with the deployment of the first iteration, known as Starlink V2 Minis, already underway. These smaller satellites serve as a precursor to the larger versions intended for launch via SpaceX's innovative Starship spacecraft.

As of May, SpaceX said it has amassed over 1.5 million Starlink subscribers globally. To meet the growing demand for its groundbreaking technology, this newly built facility is expected to significantly ramp up the production of Starlink hardware kits, enabling the company to cater to a broader subscriber base. A recent video shared by Joe Tegtmeyer (@JoeTegtmeyer) on X.com and YouTube showcased the progress of the new construction, providing a glimpse of the expansive 521,000-square-foot (~48,400 square meters) warehouse that will house the Starlink Ground equipment and dish factory (watch video linked below). SpaceX currently manufactures Starlink satellites at a factory located in Redmond, Washington. In 2022, company representatives shared they manufacture 45 Starlink satellites per week and said they aim to achieve “high volume manufacturing” to make “millions of consumer facing devices” in the years to come.

 

 

The location of this new facility adjacent to The Boring Company's site holds a symbolic connection to Elon Musk's diverse business ventures. The Boring Company, renowned for its innovative tunneling technology aimed at alleviating urban traffic congestion, operates alongside SpaceX's Starlink initiative in Bastrop.
