House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy accused the White House of unfairly targeting the new owner of Twitter, saying they need to “just stop picking on Elon Musk.” He is outraged that the White House is persecuting someone who promotes free speech.
“The government’s going to go after someone who wants to have a free speech? What do they have to look at Twitter about?” McCarthy said Tuesday outside the White House following a meeting with President Joe Biden and other congressional leaders.
“I think the American public had spoken on this, I think our First Amendment stands up and I think they should just stop picking on Elon Musk,” he added.
Musk has succumbed to Democrat attacks over the past two years. The White House and President Joe Biden have ignored the contribution of his companies, Tesla and SpaceX, to the development of the United States, preferring constant praise of—and voicing sometimes false but flattering information about—other companies. Representatives of the Democrats have also repeatedly personally verbally attacked him. The situation worsened significantly after Musk bought Twitter and began to revise the company's rules in order for the platform to become a place for the free speech of representatives of all political opinions.
McCarthy also praised Musk as someone who had “succeeded in many places.”
“I’d bet on him more than government going after you and one thing I would say when we talk about accountability, we’ll no longer let government go after people simply because of their political views,” he said.
