On September 22, Marlink announced it partnered with SpaceX to become a global "authorized Starlink integrator" for its maritime customers. Marilink is a specialist at connecting high-end superyachts and boutique cruise lines to communication systems and cloud services with cyber security. "As experts and pioneers in satellite communication solutions, Marlink and OmniAccess will leverage Starlink – a high-speed, low-latency broadband internet service enabled by a constellation of satellites in Low Earth Orbit [LEO]– to complement their portfolio of smart network solutions and services globally," said Marilink representatives in a press release.
"This ability to utilise Starlink is giant step in our strategy to provide our customers with the best-in-class user experience, combining our industry-leading GEO satellite connectivity solutions with the next generation LEO high-speed, low-latency services," said Erik Ceuppens, CEO, Marlink Group. "We are looking forward to working with SpaceX to integrate Starlink as part of our smart network solutions, creating a superior global connectivity service for our extensive maritime and enterprise customer base across the world."
"Adding Starlink to its offerings will bring a new dimension of connectivity to Marlink’s global customer base," said SpaceX Vice President of Starlink Sales Jonathan Hofeller. "This low-latency, high-bandwidth broadband experience will allow enterprise and maritime customers to manage their remote businesses more efficiently than ever before," they stated. To date, SpaceX has launched 3,347 Starlink satellites that beam data to customer's user terminal antennas. The pizza-sized phased array antennas that are designed for maritime service are more expensive than the standard user terminals for residential use. Starlink Maritime customers pay $10,000 USD for two high performance terminals for their sea-going vessels with a $5,000 USD per month internet subscription that provides high-speed, low-latency internet with up to 350 Mbps [Megabits per second] downloads. The service is higher price because it is specifically optimized to provide coverage in remote places while navigating the ocean. The Starlink antennas for residential use cost $599 USD with a monthly internet subscription of $110 USD. Visit Starlink.com for more information.
