A new update from Elon Musk confirms that Tesla is committed to bringing FSD Beta to its LHD customers in Europe in the summer of 2022. RHD owners will only be able to access the feature a few months after that.
Tesla FSD Beta is a highly anticipated feature among owners around the world. In the US, it began to be tested at the end of 2020, with a limited number of owners. Over the next six months, FSD Beta was rolled out to about 2,000 testers. After the feature overcame key issues and became safer, Tesla began rolling it out widely in the US to drivers on request.
Last Sunday, Tesla began rolling out FSD Beta in Canada, which is the first country outside the US to make the feature available. This marked the start of a more global rollout, and other countries may soon have access to the feature as well.
During the grand opening of Giga Berlin, Elon Musk stated that Tesla FSD Beta technology could be submitted to European regulators in 2-3 months. “I think we'll be ready to show it to regulators in the EU, I dunno, maybe within 2 or 3 months, but we've got to do quite a lot of work for all the special case situations in Europe,” he said.
The head of Tesla emphasized that the team still needs to do a lot of work for all special cases. The main difficulty lies in the fact that the roads in various European countries are different, as well as some traffic rules and road markings. In addition, the languages of the countries also differ greatly, so it is even more difficult to achieve good FSD Beta functionality there.
“The roads, as you know if you've driven around Europe, the roads vary quite a lot by country. The road rules, the way the lines are painted, its different, then you've got to recognize all the different languages. It's quite difficult to do FSD in Europe, it's much more difficult than in the US or Canada.”
Now, Musk has again confirmed the estimated time of the feature's arrival in Europe and has also shared other details. The head of Tesla tweeted that FSD Beta should be available in Europe this summer. However, he clarified that only left-hand drive (LHD) vehicles will have access at the beginning. Right-hand drive (RHD) car owners will have to wait a little longer. According to Musk's predictions, they won't get the feature until a few months after LHD cars get it. Do not forget to be skeptical of the announced deadlines, as creating the newest feature is an extremely difficult task. In addition, the approval process in Europe could take much longer than we might expect.
FSD Beta should be available in Europe for LHD this summer, RHD a few months later. These dates depend on regulatory approval.
