Tesla continues to optimize its Gigafactory in China. Giga Shanghai now produces more than 310,000 vehicles per year, with production ramping up to 450,000 units by the end of the year. Almost 26,000 units were produced in April, more than 14,000 of which were for export, a new Tesla record.
In April, the passenger electric vehicle market in China was diversified, and the performance of large groups in the field increased. SAIC-GM-Wuling registered 30,602 units, Tesla 25,845, BYD 25,450, and SAIC 13,004 passenger cars. Registration data includes vehicles sold both domestically and exported.
In China, Tesla sold 11,671 units in April, lower than previous months due to the significant increase in the number of exported cars. Last month, the China Federation of Passenger Cars exported 107,000 passenger cars, up 146% from last year. More than 7.5% of them were Tesla cars, which is equal to 14,174 units. New energy cars accounted for 16% of total exports, of which Tesla also accounted for almost half. The number of exported cars made the company a leader in export in the country. Chery Automobile exported 8,280 CKD, Great Wall Motor 2,620, SAIC 2,566. Other auto companies still have a lot of work to do.
