Elon Musk will join the Offshore Northern Shore (ONS) 2022 conference, which will be held in late summer in Norway. The ONS will focus on the future of the energy industry, including new technologies, new forms of leadership, and new business models.

The problem of energy is one of the most urgent on our planet and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has been trying to solve it for many years. He will be attending the Offshore Northern Shore (ONS) 2022 conference to discuss pressing industry issues escalated by Russia's attack on Ukraine. The conference will be held in Stavanger, Norway from August 29 to September 1, 2022.

ONS 2022 wrote that Musk will “set the stage for a unique and highly actualized energy conference based on current efforts with satellite communication systems in Ukraine and his very insightful thoughts on the energy industry.” The editors stressed that Musk's recent efforts with the Starlink satellite system in Ukraine have pushed communications, energy security, and technology to the very top of the global agenda.

For several years, Musk has been trying to draw the attention of the world to the energy problem. Sixteen years ago he explained that the world should move from a mine-and-burn hydrocarbon economy towards a solar electric economy, which, in his opinion, would be the primary, but not exclusive, sustainable solution. In this regard, Tesla has developed and is already mass-producing various solutions, both for generating solar energy and for storing it in batteries. Solar panels, Solar Roof, Powerwall, Powerpack, and Megapack are all products aimed at giving both households and large users such as companies and enterprises access to energy independence.

Although renewable energy sources are developing quite rapidly at the moment, the current state of affairs in the world has highlighted the unpreparedness of countries for various scenarios of the future, as well as their frivolous attitude to the problem for decades. Russia's ruthless attack on sovereign Ukraine has changed the state of things and values around the world.

Russia has been a major supplier of oil and gas to many countries, but sanctions have forced them to partly abandon Russian energy resources. However, some European countries continue to buy gas from Russia, thereby funding the brutal war and the killing of innocent civilians in Ukraine. These countries find themselves in a trap created by themselves.

In light of these events, Musk, who is a supporter of Ukraine in this situation, certainly has something to say, and perhaps this time his words will be truly heard. “The world could be powered many times over if you had enough battery capacity to pair with it. Many times over. The amount of energy reaching the earth from the sun is tremendous,” said the head of the world's most disruptive companies during his 2014 ONS speech. Musk's predictions about the importance of solar energy, batteries, and the depletion of fossil resources have been largely confirmed and are of particular relevance now.

The ONS 2022 conference will discuss batteries, solar energy, and other low-carbon and renewable energy sources. In addition, on the agenda is a discussion of the situation with energy security and work to reduce the world's dependence on Russian gas. Given the general unpreparedness of the world to switch to renewable energy sources now, a likely topic for discussion will be the resumption of nuclear power plants, as well as increasing oil and gas production in territories outside of Russia.

“Hate to say it, but we need to increase oil & gas output immediately,” Musk tweeted in early March. He was very upset that the current renewable energy developments are not capable of making up for Russian oil and gas exports. However, times like these require tough decisions to be made.
