Dozens of Tesla Model 3s are being added to car hire start-up Virtuo, which aims to make 50% of its fleet electric by 2025 and 100% by 2030. The company will offer Tesla cars in London and Paris, and they will become available from June 22.
European car hire start-up Virtuo is adding about 50 Tesla vehicles to their fleet as part of an effort to electrify, according to CNBC. The company has selected Tesla Model 3 Long Range to offer its customers in London and Paris starting June 22. The company's goal is to replace all of its ICE vehicles with electric vehicles by 2030.
Karim Kaddoura, co-founder and CEO of Virtuo, told CNBC that the company's customers themselves decided which cars to add to the start-up's fleet. Among all the offers on the market, they chose Tesla, as the company's cars cause "awe" among them. “It’s been very clear over the years, and in the last survey that we did, that Tesla Model 3 specifically was the model that everybody wanted to drive,” he said.
Kaddoura said he is confident that customers will choose to rent a Tesla as the vehicle is packed with innovation and various useful features that make it unique. Prices offered for renting Model 3 will vary depending on the length of the rental. However, they start at around $96 per day.
Investors poured $60 million into the company last month, allowing the start-up to spend the money to accelerate the electrification of its fleet. Virtuo had been planning to add EVs to its fleet for several years now, but before buying them, they wanted to understand all the additional operational challenges that EVs present.
