Tesla is strengthening its presence in the global automotive market. In March 2021, the company achieved strong performance and Austria was no exception. Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling car among all types that were sold in the country during this period.

After several months of a downturn in the domestic car market, car sales began to recover. New registrations in March 2021 totaled 29,526 vehicles, just 7.6% lower than in March 2020. Sales of diesel and gasoline vehicles are under strong pressure from alternative power vehicles, which accounted for 32.4% of new registrations, according to Statistics Austria. The share of newly registered vehicles with a pure electric drive was 11.6%, almost triple the prior year (4.4%).

In March 2021, Tesla Model 3 shone in the Austrian market and became the best-selling car. Tesla registered 1,127 Model 3 and took an impressive 3.8% of the nation's auto market. In second place is the compact and affordable Fiat 500 with 873 registrations. Closing out the Top 3 best-selling cars in March in Austria is Skoda Octavia with 726 sales.

After Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling car in March 2021, it naturally also topped the electric vehicle rankings with a 33% market share. In second and third places were VW ID.4 and VW ID.3 with 419 and 242 registrations, respectively. Despite the fact that currently Tesla only sells one model in Austria, the company became the best-selling EV brand in March 2021.
